The Most Reverend Socrates B. Villegas visited St. Vincent Catholic School of Bayambang for a pastoral visit on August 6, 2025. The visit began with a Eucharistic celebration attended by the entire school community at St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church, located beside the school.

Surrounded by students, faculty members, parents, and members of the local community, the Mass became a moment of prayer, reflection, and spiritual nourishment. Archbishop Villegas centered the celebration on the unchanging truths of the Catholic faith.

Pillars of Faith

In his homily, he emphasized four fundamental pillars of faith:

  1. “I believe in God.”
The foundation of all faith is the affirmation, “I believe in God.” Recognizing God as Creator, source of life, and cause of our being is not enough—we must also trust Him completely, seek His will, and follow His commandments. Our lives gain direction and meaning when we truly believe in Him.

  2. “I am a soul.”
This reminds us that we are both spirit and flesh. The soul, which lives on even when the body returns to dust, is what connects us to God. Knowing this truth calls us to care not only for our physical needs but also for our spiritual life through prayer, virtue, and closeness with God.

  3. “There is life everlasting.”
Death is not the end. Eternal life in heaven is our true home, where God awaits us with boundless love. This belief gives us hope, courage, and strength in trials. It also reminds us that our daily choices have eternal consequences.

  4. “Mama Mary is our mother.”
At the foot of the cross, Jesus entrusted us to His Blessed Mother (John 19:26–27). As our heavenly mother, Mary guides us, intercedes for us, and draws us closer to Christ. We can confidently turn to her in every need, knowing she prays for us with a mother’s love.

The Archbishop reminded the faithful that these truths are not merely to be memorized but to be lived daily. He urged everyone to ground their lives in love and faith. Speaking with conviction, he said:

“You must know Jesus. After you know Jesus, love Jesus—and if you really love Him, follow Him.”

These words were both a challenge and an invitation, encouraging the faithful, especially the youth, to deepen their relationship with Christ.

Shepherd with Youth

After the Mass, Archbishop Villegas engaged personally with junior high and senior high school students, listening attentively to their questions about faith, life, and purpose.

His responses were sincere and profound, assuring the young people that God is always with them in every season of their lives.

Hope Renewed

For many, the Archbishop’s visit was more than a liturgical celebration; it was an encounter with a shepherd who deeply cares for his flock. It served as a call and reminder to live in faith, hope, and love.

Parishioners, teachers, and students left with renewed strength, uplifted spirits, and a deeper resolve to live their faith each day.
